Frequently asked questions
About the app
What is Count My Opinion USA?
An app for giving your opinion on the issues and seeing the results: from everyone, from verified accounts, and from your own state.
How is it different from an online poll?
Accounts can be verified against a state voter-registration record, and one registration verifies only one account. The verified results come from real, separate people, not bots or repeat accounts.
Is it a government service?
No. We are independent and not affiliated with any government agency, political party or campaign. Results are opinions, not official counts of anything.
Does it cost anything?
No. The app is free.
Where can I get it?
Android users can download it from this website. Google Play is coming soon.
iPhone and Android users can use the web app on a phone or a laptop, with no download. On an iPhone, you can answer questions and see results right on your phone. Only the verification step needs a laptop or an Android phone, because of a limit in iPhone Safari. How iPhone users verify. Use the web app
Answers and results
Can I change my answer?
Yes, any time. Your latest answer is the one that counts. Your earlier answers stay in your own answer history.
Why can’t I see the results before I answer?
So the results don’t sway your own opinion. Give your answer, and the results open.
Who can see how I answered?
Nobody else. Results are totals only: they never show who answered what.
Verification
Why verify?
So your answers also count in the verified results, the ones people can trust come from real, registered people.
Do I have to verify?
No. You can answer every question and see every result without verifying.
Which states can verify?
Colorado, for now. More states are planned. Is your state not open yet? Help bring it on board: leave your email to hear when it opens, or help us test it.
Can I verify on the web?
Yes, in Colorado. In the web app, look yourself up on the Secretary of State’s page, save the result page, and upload it. The page is read and then thrown away; we keep only what we keep for the app. On an iPhone, see the next question.
Can I use it on an iPhone?
Yes. On an iPhone, you can answer questions and see results right on your phone. Only the verification step needs a laptop or an Android phone, because of a limit in iPhone Safari. Use the web app in Safari, with nothing to download. Safari on an iPhone can’t save the result page in a form we can read, but that is a limit of iPhone Safari, not a block on you: verify from any laptop, or from a friend’s Android phone (the web app in Chrome, or the Android app), signed in to your own account. More about verifying on an iPhone.
Do you keep my voter registration?
No. We keep only that you are verified, the state and the date, plus your voter ID as a scrambled code that cannot be turned back into the ID. More about verification.
Your data
What do you collect?
Your email, legal name, home address, answers and verification status. The privacy policy lists everything.
Do you sell my information?
No. We do not sell or share your personal information.
How do I see or delete my data?
In the app, the My data screen shows everything we keep about you. You can delete your account from the Account screen; it removes your account and your answers from every result.
What is the “I’m home” button?
It’s optional. At home, press it in Account and we compare your location, read once, with your home address. We never store your location: only the date it matched. See Your location in the privacy policy.
